As I sat on my couch on the evening of June 26th, 2003, I sat in anticipation. I knew the raptors had secured the 4th pick in the 2003 NBA Draft. However I was unsure of who would have been selected. It was an important pick in the Raptor’s franchise history, solely based on the fact that this draft was expected to be filled with franchise players. The raptors were coming off of a disastrous 24-58 season and were led by a coach who was not traveling down the 401 or the DVP but the road to unemployment due to their record. A combination of so many things were going wrong for the Toronto Raptors at the time and the 4th pick provided a sense of optimism, a sense of hope.

“With the 4th pick in the 2003 draft. The Toronto Raptors select Chris Bosh from the University of Georgia Tech,” said Commissioner David Stern.

My initial reaction was complete shock. I had never heard of Chris Bosh and he definitely was not the marquee player that I was expecting to be drafted. With Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony being drafted prior and already establishing their rep as two proven stars, resulted in my personal disappointment and skepticism of this Christopher Bosh fellow.

Little did I know.

So many thoughts came to my mind. Was this the player that we planned to align next to Air Canada? Why have I never heard of him? Why is he so skinny? and Is this going to be another Michael Bradley?

October 29th, 2003, Chris Bosh made his debut for the raptors. He finished with 11 Points and 4 Rebounds. Whatever, I was not impressed. He had one breakout game that entire season, where he scored 25 points and 9 Rebounds against the Houston Rockets.

The proven 6”11 forward has now blossomed from his rookie season. He has become an All-Star for the fifth consecutive season and is 2nd in the league in double doubles. Don’t forget he has also snatched the reigns from Vince Carter and has become the Toronto Raptors All-Time Leading Scorer, definitely making a case for being the first Toronto Raptors to ever have his jersey retired.

But after all these great accolades, why should he stay?

Chris Bosh is loved a tremendous amount by the Toronto fan base. He has displayed his loyalty countless times and has always played hard for the franchise. It is true that he has yet to lead us out of the first round, but that conversation is irrelevant based on the fact that the pieces around him have been viewed by many as mediocre. With Toronto being the only Canadian NBA Franchise, not only does he have the support of the entire city, but the entire country has appointed him the undisputed leader of the team.

Note, Vince Carter was the only other Raptor to ever have the same amount of respect and higher but we all know how that turned out.

In addition to fan loyalty, Chris Bosh should remain a Toronto Raptor because of the notion that no other team can offer him a larger contract then the Toronto Raptors. During every free agent period, many players place finances as their number one priority. However, Chris should not forget about remaining loyal to the team that drafted him. By picking him at number 4, we basically sent a message to him that we were going to remain committed to him as long as he produces on and off the court. It is evident based on his play this season that he has completed all of the requirements as he gained about 15 pounds of muscle and dare I mention again being 2nd in the league in double-doubles.

Chris Bosh should remain a Raptor because quite simply, he is FAR too good to be the Robin to Lebron's or Dwyane Wade's Batman. If he keeps carrying the Raptors higher, he'll not only have Toronto but all of Canada.

Chris should stay in Toronto because is the undisputed movie trilogy king in Toronto - he could single handedly be Predator, Alien and Terminator! Distant second would be the Leafs who would be Joe Dirt, Loser and Disaster movie.

On a calmer note, it would be waste of the emotional capital Bosh has built up in Toronto as THE signature athlete of the city. He is the face of the Raptors both on and off the court, and could easily be face of Toronto in the sporting world with a post season run.

3)Hedo Turkoglu - He hasn't played the best statistically this season, BUT i think everyone that critizes Hedo is blind. Yes he is having one of the worst seasons as a player probably since his Sacramento days BUT what he does to the game is something that not alot of player can do. BALL HANDLING, for a 6-10 very good, His shot- unconcious and when it comes to late game decisions you know who will have the ball in his hand. Locked up for the next 5 years.
THose are some of the reasons why he will stay Teamwise. A good part of the core of the raptors are locked up for 4-5 years. Thats not even including jose who COULD be running the second squad for the next 4 years. Thats not bad either. Imagine this team coming together the way they are and playing together in the future, LIKE KARDINAL SAID IT DANGEROUS!!!!!

All the activities that Chris Bosh has committed to off the court whether it be serving meals to the homeless, or making himself available for contests, has been an excellent addition to his off court reputation.. Yes, the media report of him stating that he has not been paying child support hurt his rep just a tad. But it has blown over now and Toronto fans have opened their hearts and embraced him whole-heartedly. He is in the eyes of many a true role model for the inner city kids and they have all have aspired to be like him. Canadian Raptor fans across the globe believe in Chris Bosh as the appointed leader who will be responsible for leading the Raptors to their first ever NBA Championship. Even if the raptors fail to win it all but manage to contend for years, Chris Bosh legacy will be cemented as one of the greatest Raptors to ever dribble a basketball in the Air Canada Centre.
In closing, I have a great amount of respect for the question which is, “Tell me why you think Chris Bosh should stay in Toronto and remain a Raptor?” But I truly believe he will remain here in Toronto and that all the necessary pieces are in place whether it be the loyal Toronto fan base, the aggressive management, or his marketability. Toronto Raptors are Chris Bosh, and Chris Bosh is the Toronto Raptors, and I wait in great anticipation for the day I witness the #4 and his fellow teammates hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Another reason on why it is important for Chris Bosh to remain in a Toronto Raptor uniform is the committed management. The management of this Toronto Raptors franchise has forever been committed to Chris Bosh. By trading away Vince Carter for three pistachios, they sent a strong message to Bosh saying, “You now have the keys to the car. Now drive it.” With Bryan Colangelo at the helm, he is at the top of my list as the main contributor who can be held solely responsible if Chris Bosh stays or bolts. In his first season, he acquired many integral pieces which include, T.J Ford, Jorge Garbajosa, and Anthony Parker. We also witnessed the emergence of Jose Calderon and then rookie, Andrea Bargnani. With all these moves early in Colangelo’s tenure, not only did it demonstrate a commitment to Bosh but it resulted in an Atlantic Division title and created a winning culture which is always encouraging for a young star. Last season, Bryan Colangelo made a bold move by trading away T.J Ford and others for Jermaine O’neal. My initial reaction was based on the fact that this is the type of move to deliver yet another message to Bosh that the Raptors are committed to not only building a winner, but building a winner around him. Although the move did not pan out as expected with the Raptors finishing with a 33-49 Record and finishing 13th in their respective conference, it showed Bosh that Colangelo is not afraid to take a risk, even though it may result in a failure.
With all the disappointment surrounding that season, pressure was on management. Specifically, Bryan Colangelo. He had no choice but to make the necessary moves in order to restore and repair the damaged culture that was beginning to rear its ugly head. And with Chris Bosh becoming an attractive free-agent this summer, it was important for moves to be made. Colangelo made a slew of moves which resulted in 9 new players including highly touted free-agent Hedo Turkoglu. The Raptors now stand 5th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 28-23 and with a half of basketball remaining; I believe they will continue to surge. But, this is definitely a testament to the relentlessness o f the Toronto Management. They have truly done all they can and have put the right pieces in place for Bosh and the rest of the Toronto Raptors to be successful.
Chris Bosh’s established marketability is also another reason why he should remain in Toronto. Bosh’s face can be seen plastered all over the city. He is included in almost every single Raptors promotion, as well as being featured in many endorsement deals. His personal connections that have been established have also enhanced his marketability. His relationship with Hadi Teherany, who can also be found on twitter, @hadisworld, has blossomed from a business relationship to a long lasting friendship which in my personal opinion does not appear to be broken anytime soon. Chris and Hadi have teamed together to create their company, Max Deal Technologies, which offers digital marketing and branding services to athletes and many other. The company has had a tremendous amount of success. Their clients include Steve Nash and Baron Davis, and they have managed to have a significant influence on many other NBA players.
With the company being based out of Toronto, it is hard to see Chris Bosh bolt for elsewhere when he has already established himself in the Canadian market.
As a result of Chris Bosh’s ability to market himself, He is now recognized heavily in America and was recently named Canada’s Most Viral Athlete. In addition to being the co-founder of Max Deal Technologies, and being plastered all over the city. Bosh has also released his own personal DVD entitled “First Ink” which includes various comedy sketches and other interesting attractions. He is also now known as the first athlete to launch his own iPhone application which has been a highlight in the Apple App Store online. With Bosh already having his own website, Facebook page, AOL page, MySpace Page, Youtube channel and highly active twitter account, which now has over 50,000 followers, it appears very difficult to see how an NBA athlete who has become so marketable in a specific city now pick up everything and try to rebuild elsewhere.
This brings me to my final point.
Chris Bosh should remain a Toronto Raptor because his legacy will truly last forever. I will admit that if Vince Carter never wore a Toronto Raptors uniform, it would be virtually impossible for the Raptors to remain in Toronto. But the opportunity that is presented in front of Chris Bosh to have the greatest legacy as a Toronto Raptor and surpass Vince Carter’s popularity is unprecedented and will be a choice that he will have to make. Every Raptor fan knows that based on Chris Bosh performance from this season alone will make him to be eligible for a max deal. That has never been the dispute. His decision I state in confidence will be based solely on winning. And with a solid core in place, The Raptors will be due for multiple playoff runs come the next few seasons.

Seeing Chris Bosh mature has been one of the most amazing developments to appreciate as a sports fan. From a rookie who shed tears on the bench when the team was in their lowest moment, we have seen him rise and carry the team to postseason contension twice. Basketball and philanthrophy are arts which Chris Bosh has clearly mastered. He has gained a connection with the fans through youtube and his own endeavours with the media in this city. I could sit here and talk about how Toronto needs him because of the charity work he has done; donating 1 million dollars to a Toronto charity or setting up his foundation to help set up after school programs for kids around the city. But the truth is that Chris Bosh would do these things for any other city he played for without seeking much recognition - it speaks to who he is. The bigger truth, and Chris probably won't realize this until later in his career, is that in many ways Chris Bosh needs Toronto as much as Toronto needs him. He will remain as one of the best players in the league for many years to come. but his impact on an entire nation will never be what it is unless he is in Toronto. - E-mail: imran_manjra2000@yahoo.com

By the way, did anyone notice that rumors about trading Bosh (or Bosh leaving Toronto) have died down recently? It is because we now play as a team, winning as a winning team should, and most importantly, everyone could see Bosh is enjoying his game time here with the other Raptors. I think all these evidences said it all. BOSH WILL REMAIN AS A LONG TIME RAPTORS!!!

Thanks for reading.

(2) WINNING ISSUE: The Raptors is not winning. WELL, I think statistics say it all. We are one of the hottest team in the NBA currently, sitting in the fifth position in the Eastern Conference with a possibility of going up a spot higher if players remain healthy. According to Hollinger, we have 92.2% making it to the 2010 playoff. With our relatively easy schedule for the remaining year, we have the chance to break our 47 win record.
      (3) TEAM CHEMISTRY: Bosh and Bargnani don’t fit. A BIG NO! Bargnani has grown into the type of player Colangelo (maybe everyone?) expecting him to, with the potential to become an all star next season. Bosh/Barg is probably the most dynamic duo in the league, with their offense skills that are almost unstoppable. And more importantly, they have both picked up the game on the defensive side of the floor (and that’s one of the many reasons why we are winning). And with all the young unselfish players (Jack, Calderon, Amir, Marco….. and Reggie is coming back very soon!), we will become the team to beat in the East.

Ever since the beginning of the season, speculation has arise on the future status of Toronto Raptors all star Chris Bosh with the organization. Jeff Kasa said in his bleacher report that Bosh will NOT stay as a Raptors (which I will counter in detail):
      (1) SALARY/MANAGEMENT ISSUE: Bosh is not worth the maximum. NO, this is completely wrong. You look around the league and you will realize players the caliber of Bosh (finesse such as Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett, earning ~16 million per year) always, I mean ALWAYS got the maximum contract. And one might think MLSE is not the type of organization willing to pay millions of luxury tax, but this is what Bryan Colangelo has to say in an interview with Globe and Mail, "They (MLSE) want to win and they're committed." He also mentioned in the same interview “I have no intention to move him, and have absolutely every intention to keep him long term.”

Legacy, to have a successful team built around you means you will be remembered for a long time after you finish your career. If he leaves to play as the #2 guy on a team his legacy isn't as strong. This team is not successful as of yet, but if they start making conference finals, finals and possibly a 'chip, he will start to be talked about with other great PF's. If he leaves to play with Wade/Lebron/Insert other strong wing player here, he becomes Pau Gasol; good player, but probably under rated in the league now, definitely won't remembered in the same level as Dirk who leads his team year in year out to the play-offs with a potential to do well every year. If you want to be one of the greats in team sports you have to lead the team, not become the number 2 guy, his only option for this is Toronto.

It's really quite simple. Chris Bosh should stay in Toronto becuase he is a God here, not just to the city but to an entire country. To be the face of a nation at just 25 years old is an honor to the highest degree. Much like Gods were revered in Ancient Greek and Roman times, if Bosh stays he becomes much more than just a man, but rather a symbol for Canada. He will forever be entrenched in Canadian history and his story will be such that his name will reach mythical levels to the people. The rookie who became a budding star. The star who became an All-Star. The All-Star who became an MVP. An MVP who became an NBA Champion. An NBA Champion who became a God. It is stories like this that will keep Canada ticking for much longer than Bosh will be.

I don't think the question is why should Chris Bosh should stay in Toronto it's why we NEED to keep Chris Bosh in Toronto. Since the basketball gods have blessed us with this basketball monster and legit MVP contender there's been hope and something to look foward to for Torontonians and Raptor fans across the world. With increasing numbers by the year, all star game nods, gold medals, praises amongest his peers and fans, and the on going relationship he has with his fans via social networking we could not ask for a better basketball player. Not only to play for us but also represent us as a brand and ambassdor for this sport in our wonderful country. With fans and cities creating websites, banners and petitions pleading for their superstars to stay with their clubs with the coveted free agency class of 2010 looming. Mr. Colangelo has done as much as he can. I believe it's now our turn to make that extra push, and make it our mission to reach out to Chris and show him how much we love him and how vital he is to our futures success. And then maybe Chris Bosh will see why he HAS to stay in Toronto as a Raptor. Thank you for this opprotunity.

Chris Bosh should stay a raptor because he brings everything together for the raptors. Even though most don't see him as a vocal leader, it's clear that he has a huge impact on every player on the court. He's the glue of the raptors, brings everyone together. He speaks when he's not happy instead of pretending everything is fine and dandy. The raptors are playing at this level because he spoke his mind and Bryan Colangelo made changes around Bosh to put the franchise in the position it's in today: A top 5 team in the Eastern conference which has proven it can win against the best.

truly speaking, Chris Bosh IS the Toronto Raptors. I'm not gonna lie, I'm still sad over Carter leaving, because our future looked awful, if you can recall all those D-League call ups, signing ROD STRICKLAND (LOL). We've seen Bosh mature and elevate his play to NEAR-superstar level. He is simply dominating opposing big men now. Bosh knows Toronto loves him, and he obviously loves the city, or else he would have asked for a trade when we were struggling. He knows Colengelo is building the team around him, and if he were to leave, he's looking for a championship, and if he can't lead HIS team as the number one option deep in the playoffs, how would that help his ego if he's going to a contender just to be the 2nd or 3rd option. Bosh is a smart man, and business ALWAYS comes first, solely for the fact that we can offer him the most money, he'd be a FOOL to walk away from what, almost 30 million? Bosh's heart belongs to Toronto :)

Is this some kind of rhetorical question??

THERE IS NO QUESTION!! CHRIS BOSH WILL REMAIN A RAPTOR!!

Why would he want to leave? i know i wouldn`t.. i mean...

...He has one of the greatest and most passionate fan bases all routing for him (not to mention the rest of Canada)
...He has teammates who are growing individually and as a team
...He has a coaching staff that is always pushing him to be his best (you wouldnt think a guy who is already putting up 22 - 10 would improve again but give credit to the coaching staff who have clearly showed bosh some tape and he is starting to pass a LOT better the last few games)
...He has a GM who is not afraid to make bold moves because he is NEVER happy with mediocricy

This is the team that drafted him, this is the team that developed him, hes been here through the high times (dvision champs, homecourt adv. in playoffs) and the low times (vc saga, missing playoffs etc..) and through it all he has been a class act. Toronto is his identity. We know Chris Bosh loves toronto and Chris Bosh knows we love him.

So i say theres no way he leaves!
